SCOPE
The primary aim of the Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme (PHMSS) is to motivate and support undergraduate students studying health-related subjects in completing their education and joining the healthcare workforce. This program provides financial aid to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals pursuing entry-level health courses.[the_ad id=”2313″]

Funding is granted for the regular duration of the course. Full-time scholarship recipients will receive a maximum of $15,000 annually, while part-time recipients will receive up to $7,500 per year. The funding is distributed in 24 fortnightly installments over each academic year.[the_ad id=”2313″]

The Australian Government established this scheme to honor the late Dr. Arnold ‘Puggy’ Hunter, who made exceptional contributions to the health of Indigenous Australians and served as the Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).[the_ad id=”2313″]

PUGGY HUNTER SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
- Applications Will Be Considered From Individuals Who:
- Are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.
- Can confirm their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status.
- Are currently enrolled or plan to enroll in an entry-level or graduate entry-level health-related course
- Are studying at an Australian registered training organization or university.[the_ad id=”2313″]
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR PUGGY HUNTER SCHOLARSHIP
- These scholarships are highly competitive, and the independent selection committee will make recommendations based on how well applicants address the following questions:
- Describe the driving influence or motivation behind your desire to become a healthcare professional in your chosen field.
- Discuss your aspirations as a healthcare professional for the next 5-10 years.
- Explain your commitment to studying your chosen course.
- Outline your involvement in community activities, particularly in promoting the health and well-being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals.
The scholarships are funded by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care, and managed by the Australian College of Nursing. This program was established to acknowledge Dr. Arnold ‘Puggy’ Hunter’s significant contributions to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and his role as Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
