SCHOLAR BENEFITS AND AWARD
The Rhodes Scholarship includes Oxford University course fees and a yearly stipend. For the 2022/23 academic year, the stipend is £18,180 per annum (£1,515 per month) to cover living expenses, including accommodation. Please be aware that it won’t be enough to support partners or dependents.
The Conditions of Tenure document provides details about the allowed combinations of degrees and the number of years the Scholarship covers. The duration of support depends on the chosen course. For instance, Scholars pursuing a DPhil (PhD) at Oxford can receive up to three years of fees and stipend.
Upon being selected for the Scholarship, the Rhodes Trust will cover the application fee for studying at the University of Oxford. They will also handle the cost of the student visa and the associated International Health Surcharge (IHS), which grants access to the UK’s National Health Service for international students. Additionally, the Rhodes Trust will provide two economy class flights for Scholars to travel to and from the UK at the beginning and end of their studies in Oxford.
When Scholars arrive in Oxford, they receive a settling-in allowance. If they decide to pursue a second course of study in Oxford, they will receive further assistance covering the visa renewal fee and the IHS application fee.

Citizenship & Residency: Applicants must satisfy the citizenship and residency conditions of the Rhodes constituency they are applying for.
Age: For the October 2023 intake, candidates must be between 18 and 24 years old, meaning they should have been born after 1st October 1998 and on or before 2nd October 2005. However, there’s an exception for older applicants who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual. They must be under the age of 27 on 1st October 2023 (born after 1st October 1996) and have completed their first undergraduate degree on or after 1st October 2022.
Education: Aspiring scholars must have finished an undergraduate degree, typically a Bachelor’s degree, with academic excellence. The degree should be a First Class Honors Degree or equivalent, meeting or exceeding the specific entry requirements for their chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford.
English Language: Proficiency in English is crucial, meeting the University of Oxford’s English language PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS at the Higher Level specified.
